Cookie Butter: My Love/Hate Relationship

I walked into Trader Joes over the weekend to buy a few grocery items. Usually I carry a list so I am not too distracted and so I don’t buy things “I think I need”.

Now for a little history- Speculoos cookie butter is usually under stocked at Trader Joes. When it comes into stock most of the time it’s kept behind the customer service counter because people who are addicted to this “cookie crack” (I mean butter) will wait until the store opens and buy entire cases of it leaving none for the rest of us. Sadly because of those customers who take advantage Speculoos was limited to one per customer and was kept behind the counter, leaving me with the hassle of going to every local Trader Joes for one jar! No lie a $3.00 jar was selling on eBay once for $70. (Yes I was desperate enough to check eBay) don’t judge.

Now back to my story. Finally I reach the peanut butter section (at this visit I really forgot about cookie butter) I scan through various almond butters, hazelnut spreads and then I see it, jars and jars of Speculoos cookie butter, totally overstocked. I immediately asked myself if I could use the extra calories and I lost the battle. Grabbing two jars when I wanted to grab 6 or even 7, I headed to the cash register ecstatic over my ability to purchase more than one Jar.

So I know you’re wondering if I love this stuff so much why do I hate it? Let’s just say one jar has 27 servings, one serving is one tablespoon. One tablespoon is 90 calories and 6 grams of fat. One jar lasts me about 2.1 days. That’s about 2,430 calories I don’t need! But I won’t complain as Speculoos cookie butter satisfies a need I can’t explain.

You can only find Speculoos cookie butter at Trader Joes, get some before it becomes scarce again! The mystery cookie butter is available in original and crunchy.
